That's right, the Pillow Goddess, WAS in the hot seat last week for a #PillowFight as guest host of #DesignLux chat's "Pillow Fight". Didn't see any feathers flying as in "Along Comes Polly" (at least not yet!), but boy was it a blast!!
Thank you so much Brandon Smith for having me as a guest host. I always look forward to your chat #DesignLUX every Thursday. I think we were rather a tame bunch for this first go around, so you might have to have a few more #PillowFights to get the adrenalin going. But in case you, dear readers, missed the chat, do not fear as I recap it all right here (below) with a few opinions, pillow finds, and tips from followers of #DesignLux chat.
What a thrill it was earlier this week to tune into #ModenusTalks, a new series Veronika Miller is doing with Modenus during the blog tours. The first one was launched in Vegas which you can read about here.
But a new team of bloggers was in NYC last week on the 2nd New York BlogTour #BlogTourNYC(PartDeux). (I know this might get a little confusing, but these amazing blog tours keep coming. And you know I've been sharing with you all the wonderful treats from the first NYC Blog tour (with many more inspiring posts to come!) and that understandably I'm partial to my own team BlogTourNYC2014)
But, this Part Deux team last week got to go to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) which I know was incredible, and, as Veronika always does, she created a host of other inspiring events. And we really had one ya'll!! In 2011, Deborah Main Designs pulled out all the stops at our last Austin Fashion Week event at 1020 Glass Art & Decor, called a "Pillow Party at The Pillow Glass Lounge". It was very cool, I must say so myself! With such great memories, well, I thought this photo above was very apprepro for this week's upcoming #PillowFight.
Now tell me honestly, do you ever get frustrated trying to arrange your decorative pillows? Do you sometimes feel like throwing a pillow at your husband because he said the wrong thing, or, as found of D' Coop Media, Brandon Smith, reminded me, re-enact the hilarious stabbing scene from "Along Comes Polly"? Well don't worry, as we have all been there. Here's your chance to literally throw your grievances on the bed and take it out on your pillows. Just please leave the knife in the kitchen.
Come help us duke it out this Thursday, May 22nd, at 3 PM CST (1 PM PST, 4 PM EST) on Twitter, as I partake as guest host, on Brandon Smith's #DesignLux chat's "Pillow Fight".
That's right, the Pillow Goddess, moi, is in the hot seat!
Deborah Main Designs received some wonderful press from our trip to New York for #BlogTourNYC in the May/June 2014 issue of NHome magazine. Remember how I had to hold back a bit on some of my design finds from The Architectural Digest Home Design Show? Well, not anymore. NHome Texas Magazine is now online and on news stands, so I'm VERY excited to share with you a lot more about the designs I selected.
The Architectural Digest Home Design Show is one of the premier design shows in NYC showcasing thousands of products from over 300 different brands. Inspiration was everywhere! I've ALWAYS wanted to attend because I've been an avid fan of the magazine and all the incredible products and features. This years keynote speaker was none other than AD Editor-in-Chief Margaret Russell. The AD Home Show also included lectures hosted by Architectural Digest and design seminars hosted by The New York Times. Other exciting activities included:
We're back at the gorgeous Miele showroom. #BlogTourNYC is presented by Modenus, and if you haven't checked out this design source by now, please do. Modenus is an invaluable online international resource to homeowners wanting the best of the best products - from kitchens to art & accessories, it's a one stop shop. We at Deborah Main Designs are proud to have a profile on Modenus as well as countless other designers and brands worldwide. You will also find this Miele steam oven below and more. I appreciate the fabulous Veronika Miller, CEO of Modenus and founder of BlogTours so much. What a gift of a lifetime she gave me by inviting me on #BlogTourNYC. Thank you Veronika!!
(Note: My trip to New York City for #BlogTourNYC, presented by Modenus, was paid for by our generous sponsors. Many thanks to DXV, Miele, BLANCO, Rutt Cabinetry, West Edge Design Fair and Prizer Hoods. Photography, other than my own, for this post is courtesy of Miele press kit and Maureen Coates of Modecor. All opinions expressed are my own, unless quoted.)
Now on to the fabulous evening that awaited us after the photography workshop I wrote about yesterday HERE with Susan and Will Brinson. With out further ado, please meet the renowned Chef Cedric Vongerichten. A doll to be sure, so calm, so kind and the most amazing chef!
Hello all. It’s kind of a cloudy day here today in Austin, Texas, but it was anything but that in New York City during #BlogTourNYC. In fact, we only had one night of rain, and it would be the one night I’m trying to catch a cab out to Brooklyn to hear my son play in his band. Just FYI, there are no cabs in NYC in the rain!!
But on our first full day of BlogTour, after a chilly but lovely morning with Tess Casey floral design, then a delicious Italian lunch and DXV showroom (and this was only 1/2 way through the first day!) we were treated to the next 6 hours, from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. to the modern showroom of one of our top sponsors, Miele, food photography, and the most spectacular gourmet meal in the world!
I still can't believe I'm only on the first full day of #BlogTourNYC but it was the trip of a lifetime so there are a lot of details to share with you. #BlogTourNYC was chock full of inspiration. I want to share not just the highlights, but how the new "learning component" made this tour so unique, and how using some of these luxury products in your home might open up a whole new world of inspiration for you too. If you’re just joining us now, please catch up by enjoying a wide range of earlier blog posts HERE.
(Note: My trip to New York City for #BlogTourNYC, presented by Modenus, was paid for by our generous sponsors. Many thanks to DXV, Miele, BLANCO, Rutt Cabinetry, West Edge Design Fair and Prizer Hoods. Some photos identified are mine while the others are from DXV press kit. I left y'all off with the gorgeous floral arranging by Tess Casey, jumped ahead to celebrate Earth Day with one of our sponsors, BLANCO, who videoed us HERE at The Architectural Digest Home Design Show, but I now bring you back to the epitome of luxury, one of our AMAZING sponsors, DXV.
Today is Earth Day and we at Deborah Main Designs plan to celebrate in a big way with a new composting system! First off I'd like to introduce one of the generous sponsors, BLANCO, who paid for my trip and expenses to New York last month for #BlogTourNYC. (My trip was also sponsored, and paid for, by Modenus, Miele, DXV, Rutt Cabinetry, Prizer Hoods and West Edge Design Fair; all opinions are my own.)
While attending the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, BLANCO videotaped all twelve bloggers, in groups of three, to share our "Earth Day Tips" with consumers. We had so much fun making the "Earth Day" videos that we wanted to share it with you on this special day.
Earth Day began on April 22, 1970 with over 20 million Americans helping to launch the modern environmental movement. The Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act along with other substantial environmental policies followed closely behind. Now more than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day every year in order to increase awareness and funding to protect the environment and all the beauty the world has to offer us. How are you celebrating Earth Day today and every day?
Please watch the video below, which BLANCO produced on #BlogTourNYC, to learn some "Earth Day Tips" from Jeanne Chung , Typhanie Peterson, and myself, that you can use every day. I personally compost, but BLANCO inspired me to make more efficient use of my kitchen too. Also check out BLANCO by Design's blog to see all the videos from #BlogTourNYC they will feature this week, and learn more about their fabulous kitchen products.
Yay!! I can now tell you about ten of my design finds from #BlogTourNYC because Modenus released their Best of BlogTour NYC list last week!!! I've been dying to share with you all the FABULOUS design I saw, but had to hold back on my top three. Modenus asked each of the Bloggers for their top three design picks from the whole entire four day tour. Can you imagine? I can understand why they chose three because there's a dozen of us. Doing the math that gives 36 top design finds from our tour, so that's a pretty fabulous list!
But I can't begin to tell you how challenging that was to select just THREE from the entire tour!!!!! Especially since every waking hour for 4 days straight we saw design inspiration around every corner! (Official style spotters and interior designers are used to making selections like this...but this was very new to me.)
Part II: Tess Casey's studio, Aisling Flowers, and a Floral Design Workshop. As mentioned in Part I: Deborah Main Inspired by Flower Market with Tess Casey, the first day of #BlogTourNYC with Tess Casey was all arranged by our generous sponsor West Edge Design Fair. Thank you!!!
Hello again! More to share from the magical #BlogTourNYC!! On our very first full day, Wednesday, March 19th, in New York, we visited the flower district (which is here in Part I) and then we enjoyed learning flower design from New York's best, Tess Casey. The above poster hangs in her studio, among many other movie and life memorabilia. Thomas Hardy wrote the beautiful, but tragic story, of Tess and then it was adapted many times in theatre and film.
Well, it's that time of year again - High Point Market in North Carolina,(#hpmkt) THE largest furniture market in the U.S. - kicks off this weekend from Saturday, April 5th - 10th. There will be an incredible amount of fabulous new design from top brands and smaller ones with the famous Style Spotters (10 designers hand-selected by #hpmkt) sharing all their finds. Plus all my Twitter friends are going to be there, as well as two designers that I've grown to admire very much.
