Today is Labor Day, and my heart is with all of you affected by Hurricane Harvey, laboring so hard to get your life and home back and those laboring to help the families and businesses. There's this constant mixture of sadness, trauma, confusion, but also love, hope and beauty. Many Texas families are in shelters, some families are having barbecues today, and some are driving truck loads of donated supplies to help the victims. No matter what you're doing, or what nature has thrown our way, life must move forward, and Texas is a shining example of that strength. On this Labor Day, I wanted to offer you a slight reprieve from all the devastation.
Laid up for the holidays from surgery or a bad cold? I've got you covered. But first off, Happy Holidays! A week from today is Christmas and two weeks from today is New Year's Day. Many families are working hard to prepare. Either for relatives to visit (maybe fixing up the guest room) or for children to be surprised by what's under the tree from Santa (finishing that shopping list) or a bountiful meal, travel, or all of the above. I didnt think I'd be writing this, but since I'm receiving such a wealth of love and support and I've run out of time to send out a fall/winter newsletter, or even do a proper blog post (the "DXV Big Reveal" post is 90% finished. Watch for it in about 4 weeks.) I'm going to share with you that I have colon cancer. There I said it.

Wow, what a whirlwind of a spring it's been! Having recently enjoyed celebrating my birthday and anniversary in gorgeous spring weather here in Austin, while many of you are still dealing with snow and ice, we've been attending lavish dinners and posting 
2017 was quite a year! In fact, I think it was one of my BEST year's ever, because I turned 60 and was determined to seize every moment of the year. You know, that number on my cake could easily be 50 or even 40, cause as the saying goes, you're only as old as you feel, and I feel like I'm just getting started.
My plans for my 6th decade are 
Happy New Year! This is an odd way to start this post, but in many ways it's very appropriate. I have many blog posts to write, the review of 2017 one, all I learned at BOLD Summit, the Pantone Color of the Year one (which if you haven't heard yet, is Ultra Violet), and many more. Sometimes there isn't enough time to write all I want to write. But this week's topic is timely and important. Far more to you and me,

Sometimes it takes a relative or friend visiting to get you out to re-discover your own back yard. You know how the saying goes that you never really sightsee in the city you live, especially if you've lived in it 30 plus years!
Since I'm taking most of April off to enjoy my 60th birthday, that's exactly what I did today, see all the beautiful sites like waterfalls, flora and cacti at the Zilker Botanical Garden. It's literally IN my backyard, as I only live up the hill from Zilker Park. Why I have not been there in years is beyond me??
