With many people at home for almost two years now, the itch to remodel kitchens or update home offices and studios is increasingly popular, almost a necessity. Brooklyn-based product photographer Cason Latimer decided he needed to expand his business into a much larger studio equipped with an on-site modern kitchen to better serve his diverse clients’ needs. I recommended the BLANCO UNIT because of my personal and professional experience with its superior quality and diverse options. He was excited and went with it. You too can modernize your kitchen with a BLANCO UNIT. Learn how now.

An Intelligent Trustworthy Solution

With people spending more time at home, the kitchen has grown to be even more integral to our daily lives. The dynamics in how we use the kitchen in our homes and offices have changed significantly. Let’s just say that more people are in the kitchen than at any time before in our lifetimes.

However, there is one thing that has not changed, and that is the use of water. When did you last stop and think about the value of water and the vital role it plays in our lives and the kitchen? It’s a luxury to have running water in our country that I feel we should never take for granted. From drinking to washing our hands and cleaning fresh produce, you might call water golden -the star of the show, as it is what we need and use on a daily basis to stay healthy and clean.

I never really took time to think of it this way, but the kitchen sink and faucet have become like a “water hub”, the go-to place in our kitchens. How you plan your kitchen water hub is important so that it meets the needs of your lifestyle, your household, the space, and the people using it in your home office.

A photographer’s studio is very fast-paced with sometimes multiple photoshoots going on at once. For Cason’s studio kitchen, he needed a professional kitchen that would be a reliable workhorse for his clients’ important projects. From food prep to clean up, he had to carefully plan his selections to create the best performing water hub with a high-quality, durable sink and modern faucet that would not only function flawlessly but also be aesthetically pleasing and efficient.

What to consider in designing your BLANCO UNIT

  1. Single bowl or double
  2. Farmhouse sink or something more sleek and modern
  3. Type of finish/color
  4. Style of faucet and ease of use
  5. Accessories you will need

Single bowl or double

It seems there is a definite legion of supporters for both types of sinks, single and double bowl. You either love single bowl sinks, or you are a fan of the double. It also depends on how you plan to use your kitchen sink. In our home, we went with a double BLANCO sink because we’re used to that and we like the ability to fill up the right half of the sink with water to wash dishes by hand and then use the left side for drying. In fact, the BLANCO accessories really come in handy for that very purpose.

On the other hand, Cason needed a large single bowl sink for the many different types of clients he works with. From a florist arranging flowers in the sink to food and beverage brands mixing ingredients for their products, a single bowl was the answer for his use.

It’s a great thing that BLANCO offers many different stunning styles of kitchen sinks from farmhouse aprons to modern and sleek. With coordinating faucets, the BLANCO UNIT allows you to thoughtfully select the ideal sink, faucet, and accessory system, that harmoniously fit together for your needs.

Farmhouse sink or something more modern and sleek

For Cason’s working studio, he chose the PRECIS Super Single Sink. He needed a very modern, clean look to seamlessly fit in with his new countertop, cabinetry, and classic white backsplash. He also needed to create a larger working space not only on the countertop but in the sink itself. The innovative PRECIS Collection, with its many different styles and models, was the best choice for his studio needs and it’s an excellent choice for any modern kitchen.

How to Modernize Your Kitchen with The BLANCO UNIT - Silgranit sink and matching faucet

Type of finish for your BLANCO unit

The Precis Collection of sinks are made from SILGRANIT® BLANCO’s revolutionary, patented, sink material. SILGRANIT® is more durable than any other sink surface, so this type of finish was perfect for Cason’s busy studio. The sink in our home kitchen is also SILGRANIT® and I can attest to the fact that it is a highly durable and performing sink finish – we love it!

Made in Germany and Canada – the non-porous surface offers a super smooth stone-like finish, in 9 on-trend, nature-inspired colors, that resist stains, scratches, chips, acid, and heat.

Color has power and the beautiful choices of BLANCO color – White, Biscuit, Cafe, Truffle, Metallic Grey, Anthracite, Cinder, Concrete Grey, and the newest kid on the blog Coal Black – offer consumers a wide range of warm and cool neutral tones from which to choose.

Silgranit sinks are colored all the way through to ensure a long-lasting, non-fading surface. Each one of our color formulas goes through a strict protocol resulting in a consistently rich and precise palette across our entire Silgranit portfolio. – BLANCO

Cason chose the rich Anthracite color which works beautifully with his new countertop, making the entire BLANCO UNIT look chic and modern.

The piece-de-resistance when choosing SILGRANIT®, especially in today’s times, is that BLANCO’s proprietary “Hygienic Plus” surface, shields against dirt and bacteria, reducing bacterial growth up to 98%. Plus, it’s super easy to clean with just soap and water or baking soda because the “hydrophobic surface” actually pushes away dirt and water so it drains easily.

Another win-win for your home or office/studio.

Style of faucet and ease of use

Another selection one needs to make when designing the best BLANCO UNIT, is probably the most crucial, the faucet. Remember how important water is to your daily life? When building a new kitchen in your home, or like in Cason’s studio, it is really best to select your faucet and sink ahead of time. Think about what tasks you’ll be using the faucet for, how many people will be using it, and if you need a pull-down spray that can provide “ergonomic benefits to your kitchen routine.” BLANCO has a handy Faucet Guide that will help you make the best decision.

Cason selected the URBENA Faucet for his BLANCO UNIT. The ultimate blend of function and modern design, the URBENA, is a winner of the Red Dot Design Award.

When it comes to modern design and style, the URBENA faucet is the perfect addition to a contemporary kitchen. It has four features that really stand out. It’s not only beautiful to look at with its sleek body design but the ergonomically styled spout and unique handle design make it super easy to use. And what a powerful spray head it has secretly hidden away!

  1. High-arc spout
  2. Sleek body design
  3. Hidden pull-down spray head
  4. Discreet dual-spray button

One of the bonuses to selecting this chrome faucet is that it color coordinates with the SILGRANIT® sink in Anthracite, making a striking BLANCO UNIT. Super slim with an ergonomic handle design, see for yourself how modern it looks.

What accessories you will need

Accessories make an outfit right? To complete your BLANCO UNIT, the third component is to select the accessories. For our BLANCO sink in our newly remodeled kitchen, we chose the grids and cutting board, because we also have the SOLON composting system. Cason chose the Elevated Sink Grid as well.

The kitchen sink grids are a fantastic addition to your sink. Made from high-quality stainless steel and custom-fitted to your sink, they not only protect your sink but elevate the bottom and add functionality.

Now I have a little bit of a pet peeve with my husband on the use of our BLANCO grids. I like to put our dirty dishes on the left grid because I use the right side of our double bowl sink for washing and garbage disposal. David, my dear husband, on the other hand, loves to use our grids as a drying rack, but he takes the smaller one and puts it on the counter as a drying rack. While this infuriates me and messes up how I use our sink, to my dismay, I cannot fault him, because one of the multiple uses that the BLANCO grids afford is using them to air-dry your dishes.

The sink grids are also heat resistant, have rubberized feet, and are dishwasher safe. Another great accessory to consider is the Mesh Baskets & Colanders.
