5 Tips for Letting A Statement Piece Speak for Itself!

“Love Happens”, as I’ve learned first hand through luxury brand KOKET with their dramatic lifestyle “Statement Pieces”. And “Love Happened” in Chicago at BOLD Summit when KOKET’s founder Janet Morais saw the one velvet sample of my new UnZipped Series in the Designer Showcase.

Read all about the KOKET brand, the allure of Desire Chair, one of their signature “Statement Pieces”, and meeting Janet for the first time, with the article I wrote as a Guest Blogger for KOKET Love Happens Magazine:

“The Power of BOLD Design With One Sexy Chair”.

Five words“Love this, but with leather” – is all Janet had to say and 2 weeks later KOKET and I collaborated to create cream velvet and black leather UnZipped pillows for a “soft launch” of the new series in their showroom at High Point Market, Oct 14 – 18th. The below showroom photo by KOKET features the UnZipped pillow series center stage on their striking Plisse bed. The Plisse bed, full of “elegant simplicity and vintage glamour,” is a perfect example of a stunning “Statement Piece” for your bedroom.

With today being the final day of the 5-day, fall High Point Furniture market (#HPMKT), and watching it all unfold via Social Media – the excitement, presenters, panels, events, Style Spotters, Design Blog Tour, parties – and yes, all the new designs coming out of #HPMKT, I began to think about what creates a “Statement Piece”.

We all have heard the phrase “Statement Piece” talked about for years in fashion and styling an outfit. You know the drill –  the right handbag, the one piece of jewelry that stands out, or the right pair of shoes, or all three for that matter.  It depends on your style and your personality, what part of you and your outfit you’d like to make a fashion statement. I recently bought a fabulous white and gold vintage necklace and wore it all summer long.  Loved it!  So much, that it became my summer “Statement Piece”. I felt like once I had that necklace on, I needed nothing else….oh, but of course, clothing.

The pieces you select for your home also make fashion statements, reflecting your personal style and what you care about most, telling your life story. With the luxury brand KOKET, every single one of its finely crafted items is a “Statement Piece”. Their brand is always pushing the boundaries and you won’t find any other luxury brand like it!

KOKET’s founder and CEO Janet Morais is very clear on the purpose of her curated pieces for you that reflect the experiences, pleasures, passions and life events that helped shape who she is:

“Thru KOKET I will share ma joie de vivre and coquettish frill while empowering you to follow my lead and take risks to create your own sense of individual style—for yourself, your home and how you live. Fall in love with KOKET & let me empower you thru my collection.” – Janet Morais

The above Drapesse II Chair by KOKET doesn’t have to do anything but simply exist in it’s gorgeous pink velvet. It immediately commands your attention and speaks volumes as a “Statement Piece.” The description alone says it all:

“As a tribute to Dorothy Draper‘s high style we took the classic Drapesse chair and added a bit of the KOKET lavish & sensuous edge. Complete with a flirty new makeover, her exterior is adorned with our watercolor Terra leather transitioning to a pale pink velvet interior and resting on curvy polished brass legs.”

Evidently, not one, but TWO High Point “Style Spotters” selected TWO of KOKET’s pieces at this High Point Market and both can add luxury and style as “Statement Pieces” in your home.

High Point Market Style Spotters are home fashion leaders who shop their favorite showrooms at market to “Style Spot” their selections with the highly-regarded sticker to showcase the top new styles of each Market.

Below, interior designer extraordinaire, Robin Baron, who recently launched her own new showroom collection, fell in love with KOKET’s  Drapesse II Chair.

“I love Koket’s Drapesse chair, especially in this pink fabric combination! It creates a dramatic focal point and invites you into an intimate world of luxe glamour.”

And the 2nd “Statement Piece” by KOKET selected by “Style Spotters” at High Point Market, is the Geisha Bar Stool below, “Style Spotted” by design duo Woodson & Rummerfields.

Although KOKET’s theme for High Point was “Designing for the Future” featuring warm copper and creams in its pieces, evidently blush pink is still a hot trend that interior designers, homeowners and High Point Style Spotters alike are still loving.

I happen to have a fancy for it too, as I recently created lovely blush pink pillows handcrafted from a vintage Shantung textile.

Now that you’ve seen what luxury pieces look like,  let’s talk about 5 tips to help you select a “Statement Piece” for your home:

  1. Go with what you love.  As interior design icon Bunny Williams says,“If you love something it will work, that is the only real rule.”
  2. Think about parts of your room as vignettes and the scale of each piece. One room doesn’t have to have only one standout piece. “Statement Pieces” can be incorporated into different parts of rooms, like a corner vignette, and in different sizes, in your home.
  3. Go for artisan-quality design. Handcrafted pieces, like KOKET, will provide you with the finest quality that lasts a lifetime. Think about it like collecting art, finding that one unique piece can be a statement in a room, on a sofa, or on the wall in any part of your home.
  4. Don’t overthink the piece.  A “Statement Piece” can be a large-scale piece like the tall and dramatic Drapesse II chair, or a smaller piece, like the sexy UnZipped pillow. It all depends on your personal style and what kind mood you want the room to be. Luxurious, calming, glamourous, or modern.
  5. Get out of the way and let your “Statement Piece” speak for itself. Don’t decorate it, don’t clutter it with other pieces, just let the piece you select be the beauty it wants to be in any given room, and tell its own unique story as a luxurious “Statement Piece”.

Below is another fabulous “Statement Piece” for your home, the KOKET Guilt Mirror. As you see from the photos below, it can also be incorporate into a room with other statement pieces.
