How Do Texture & Color Details Inspire Your Creativity?

Detail of Encaustic painting by guest artist Annie Darling.

I’ve been absent from blogging for a couple weeks recovering from the FANTASTIC experience of my first WEST Austin Studio Tour.  It was a whirlwind of a two weeks but couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Thank you to my guest artists Annie Darling, Judith Simonds, Denise Jaunsem, and Yuliya Lanina. What a wonderful, talented group of women!  Thank you to Big Medium for putting on such a stellar Studio Tour. But most of all thank you to any of you who stopped by my studio and came out to support the arts! Seeing, meeting, and talking with you about art was so inspiring that we plan to do WEST 2018 next year!

This week’s Texture Tuesday is going to be my last official one on my blog. I’m going to shift my Texture Tuesday’s to my Instagram account HERE, because half the time I don’t get this blog post out until the end of the week.  So please follow my instagram @deborahmaindesigns to get your weekly dose of Texture Tuesday.

And to be honest, it was a fast-paced spring so I’m going to blog more infrequently this summer as I really need the break.   I’m really looking forward to the summer of unscheduled time –  a break from blogging every week, a time to relax and visit with family and friends, a time to get in my studio to create and hopefully travel some too!

What are your summer plans? Please share in the comments what inspires you? And what would you like to see me write about in future blog posts? I truly appreciate your feedback!

Funny thing is, I was so inspired by guest artist and friend Judith Simonds sculptures that starting tonight I am taking a drawing class from her. I’m SO excited to be using my creative brain in a whole new way, one that I know will be very challenging for me!

Please enjoy below some textural and colorful details of artwork that inspired me at Due WEST, the official kickoff to the West Austin Studio Tour at the Dougherty Arts Center.  I never had time during WEST to go see other artists’ studios so seeing all 150+ in one gallery was very inspiring to me as well as the art of my guest artists.

While you look at these details, think about what type of art inspires you and perhaps you too can sign up for a class this summer to stretch your creativity!  Off to the beach, XO PG
