07 Feb From Greenery to Eucalyptus Comes Many Delightful Shades

A few of the hundreds of vintage French trims, ribbon and brooches I have in my collection to create textile art pieces for you.

Are you sitting down?  Okay, here’s the news: This week’s Texture Tuesday is going to be brief. I know that’s hard to imagine, since my blog posts are basically short novellas, but I’m going to try for a few weeks to see if I can keep Texture Tuesday shorter.

Green comes in many delightful shades and Pantone has announced that their 2017 color of the year is Greenery (below). In the above image you see many ribbons and vintage French trim and brooches that I have in green to create my textile pillow art.

Green is very inspiring to me, but as we all know there are umpteen shades of green. Although I like to keep up with trends in the home industry, I don’t generally follow trends but prefer to create pieces that speak to me and my clients. But since my artwork is textile pillows, and can be seen on contemporary sofas and beds in countless homes across the country, I need to at least be aware of the trends.

In keeping Greenery in mind, the above image features some of the vintage and new textiles I look forward to working with this spring.

Trends come and go, so don’t feel like you have to always be on trend when you’re decorating. If green is not your thing, go instead with colors you love that inspire you.  

I will have to say for me, that green is one of the happiest of colors because it reminds us all of spring which is full of life, new growth, and new beginnings.  And springtime is my favorite season because April is my birthday AND anniversary month – always a lot of fun.

I love having a lot of green in my home and studio, as well as being able to go outdoors and experience being in, and inspired by, nature – the green leaves, grass and other abundant floral colors.

I have a bay window in my bedroom that looks out at our big Shumard Red Oak tree and when it’s in full bloom I could stare at those beautiful green leaves forever!

The February issue of House Beautiful recently arrived and while looking through the magazine I noticed they had a lovely color selection of home items featuring the shade of green they call Eucalyptus.

You actually can call this color anything from mint to jade to rosemary to plain old light green. I think it’s a very elegant and sophisticated shade of green, don’t you?

Below is a vintage textile pair of pillows that I recently uploaded to my website, Deborah Main Designs. It is now available in my Limited Edition Series under Vintage Mint Silver Leaf Pillow. I think the color of this unique pair of pillows definitely could be called Eucalyptus as well.

So, as you see, whether it’s the color of the year or not, color, and what it is called, is all in the eye of the beholder.

Either way, whether you follow trends or not, green is a beautiful, cheerful color and touches of it in your home decor will surely brighten up your home and spirits this year!
