MEET THE PILLOW GODDESS

Deborah Main is The Pillow Goddess® – a dynamic, innovative design leader who has helped homeowners, interior designers, and retailers create beautiful, distinctive high-end spaces. As she continues to expand The Pillow Goddess brand, there’s no stopping Deborah’s drive and exuberant passion for placing luxury pillows in your home and life.

The inspiration behind The Pillow Goddess is deeply rooted in Deborah’s family history. While growing up in New York’s Hudson River Valley, Deborah was surrounded by beautiful textiles, antiques, and jewelry. Named after her grandmother, Fannie Main, her great-grandparents lived in a historic Victorian home overlooking the Hudson River and passed down many family heirlooms. An antique cameo brooch inherited from her great aunt, (later discovered to be a “Hobe”, a French brand from 1887), inspired Deborah’s passion for collecting vintage brooches.

In her teens, during family travels to Europe, Deborah learned about all forms of art and design, becoming intrigued by centuries of color, texture, and fine craftsmanship. These life experiences, along with her mother’s influence, instilled in Deborah a lifelong love and appreciation for beauty and fine art. This later laid the foundation for Deborah’s extraordinary designs.

In 1994, after graduate school, Deborah was struck down with the debilitating disease Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). She had to quit her job and was bedridden for years. Read Deborah’s story of how she started making pillows HERE. Later, as her health improved, she attended art openings and tried oil painting. She was enthralled with mixing colors and soon wanted to be an artist.

Deborah experienced a profound “Artistic Epiphany” when she designed her first ribbon pillow at a luxury fabric store.  She fell in love with luxurious textiles and vintage French trim and started collecting them from antique dealers.

In 2004, Deborah answered an “Open Call for Designers” to present her work to a panel of judges. With excellent feedback, she opened her design studio, Deborah Main Designs, launching her first signature pillow collection, Rococo Ribbon. She then launched a business website specializing in luxury one-of-a-kind decorative pillows. Read the history of the company HERE.

Known affectionately for years as The Pillow Goddess, Deborah’s design work has been nationally recognized as a Martha Stewart American Made Award Finalist. She has two grown children and lives in Austin with her husband David. They both love to travel for inspiration, especially to Italy.
