Summer is here and I couldn’t be happier! I don’t know about you, but I love summer because the days are much more relaxed.  With life opening up again, we can see our family and friends and start planning summer vacations. In fact, our son, his fiance, and our daughter visited us in Austin this past week. It was incredible to hug them in person and dine out at two restaurants. In addition, it’s a wonderful time of year to be inspired by great design. National Tradeshows are happening all across the country and North Carolina’s High Point Market starts this Saturday, June 5th.  Many interior designers across the country are planning itineraries as I speak.  So dream big this summer with three exciting events featuring Donna Moss’ inspiring show home book Best of Show and Julia Molloy’s BOLD by Design magazine!

 

 

 

 

 

The n0t-to-be-missed trio of events

Are you headed to High Point Market June 5 – 9th?   Before I get any further, you need to mark these three fantastic events on your schedule. Why? Because Julia Molloy and Donna Moss are truly inspiring and Donna will be signing her new book.

What do these two fabulous women have in common?

Donna Moss, the “Queen of Bling” and Julia Molloy, the “Empress-in-Chief,” are two of the most talented women entrepreneurs I know.  Nothing stops them. They are BOLD, fierce, full of creative ideas, kind and giving human beings, and both are launching TV shows, books and magazines.

I want to congratulate Donna and Julia on these major achievements in the interior design industry. They are dear friends, industry leaders, and a true inspiration to me and many others, so be sure to attend the Summer Launch Series of events at Zuo Modern, Phillips Collection, and Unique Loom, and follow them on Instagram to keep up with these two creative dynamos. @donnamossdesigns @boldbydesignmagazine

Now let’s dive into what these two inspiring women are up to

Donna Moss, of Donna Moss Designs, has not only launched her own web-based TV network HomeDesignTV.com  (more about that below) but she has recently created a gorgeous coffee table book Best of Show.

This exciting new 220-page hard-back book is not merely a showcase of her own work, but a “breathtaking sample” of the first pilot of her new TV network. The gorgeous book features stunning photography of Donna’s designs and the beautiful work of many other interior designers, vendors, and artists Donna loves collaborating with on her show homes.

About the book

Best of Show is the culmination of the work of interior designer and reality television star, Donna Moss, as well as the work of many talented designers she has loved to collaborate with. Moss completed four spectacular show homes; three of them have been filmed for a season of Best of Show to be broadcast on Moss’ new streaming network, Home Design TV (HDTV).

Each show house had its own personality. The styles of the homes in Texas ranged from French to modern Mediterranean to modern farmhouse, while a home in Las Vegas was contemporary in its design. Each required a custom touch. Moss and the designers achieved the goal of fun, functional, and fabulous design. – Douglas King, Publisher, Day III Productions

About the author

Donna Moss, “Queen of Bling,” brings her glamorous lush decor into every space she decorates. A former finalist on HGTV’s Design Star, she went on to host over 30 episodes of her own show on HGTV called Donna Decorates Dallas. Still working as an interior designer, but never one to shy away from the camera, Moss has launched her own web-based network called Home Design Television (HDTV) homedesigntv.com. – Douglas Kind, Publisher, Day III Productions

The F Factor – where fashion meets interior design

What I love about Donna’s design philosophy, which she goes into more depth in the book, is it consists of the “F Factor” –

• Fun
• Function
• Fabulous

 

Donna is a super fun personality and the book does an excellent job of describing Donna’s background in TV and in designing show homes.  It also demonstrates how Best of Show evolved from a collaboration with HDTV president Joshua Mills, and became the first pilot featuring three of Donna’s show homes.

“Before bling was even a thing”

I also loved reading about Donna’s background in design and fashion. She added rhinestones to everything from her Barbie doll clothes as a child to jackets, skirts, and handbags she would repurpose from Goodwill. I had no idea Donna had such an in-depth sewing background, Her story is fascinating and inspiring to read.

The similarities between fashion design and interior design are striking, both share the same playground – selecting fabrics and color, designing and sketching ideas. The world of fashion is a significant inspiration to the world of interior design, so I was able to have my dream come true. – Donna Moss, author, Best of Show

I must say, I have to agree.  Donna is one of the kindest people and interior designers I have ever met. And she loves to collaborate with other designers, vendors, and artists as you will see clearly throughout the book.

Without further ado, let’s jump into the book because the gorgeous photography of Donna’s show homes is priceless.

Collaborating with other designers, vendors, and artists

The book to me is laid out beautifully.  It starts with one of the show homes on her new TV series, The Fort Worth Magazine Dream Home in 2013, and continues through her most recent show home in Las Vegas, The Armoniosa, in 2020. Each photo of her work, and that of the other creative partners, is captivating.  It also features some beautiful shots of Donna’s own home.

The first image below, from the Fort Worth Magazine Dream Home in 2013 features custom art by Dallas-based artist LaToya Jones and colorful florals by The Botanical Mix.

Although it’s hard to read the words on each page (below), I wanted you to see how the pages are laid out in each section.

In addition, Donna, having collaborated with the owner and principal designer Shane Friesenhahn of The Botanical Mix, now has her own line of colorful floral artistry using fresh and preserved botanicals with minerals.

In Best of  Show, Donna features the stunning work of  The Botanical Mix and designs by some of the wonderful interior designers, vendors, and artists she loves to collaborate with.

For example, interior designers Danny Russo and Kimberly JOI McDonald have sections that feature their beautiful designs. Also, there are sections that feature other artisans, like sculptor Dorit Schwatrz.

The Armoniosa Show Home in Las Vegas

The Armoniosa show home is breathtaking.  As you’ll see in the book, it’s a magnificent 10,000 sq. ft modern home and Donna Moss and Kimberly JOI McDonald jumped at the chance to design the interiors.

They collaborated with many different brands, interior designers, vendor, and artists. I was fortunate enough to be one of the artists in the Las Vegas Armoniosa Show Home when Donna styled the sitting area of the bedroom suite (above) with a pair of my UnZipped luxury pillows. Lucky for me, that photo made the cover of the book – Thank you Donna!

There are several rooms of this show home featured in the book. Below is a page of the incredible outdoor living spaces.  Can you imagine yourself relaxing there this summer? I sure can!

Donna also shares the inside of her own home.  Below is a page in Best of Show with a little history of how she got started designing show homes and the photography of the rooms in her home in the book (I fell in love with all the storage in her exquisite kitchen!) are equally stunning.

The first of three planned events will be held Saturday, June 05 from 3-5 pm at ZUO Modern’s 26,000 s.f. showroom, in IHFC’s Design Wing, 5th Floor, Space D502.  As BOLD by Design Magazine host’s its premiere “BOLD Happy Hour” with a fun-filled event to celebrate the magazine’s official launch, delighting market attendees with specialty BOLD Cocktails, ZUO’s famous frozen margaritas, lite bites, and drawings for exclusive BOLD swag paired with ZUO product giveaways. 

A special added bonus and brand collaboration features an appearance by “The Queen of Bling”,  herself, famed Interior Designer Donna Moss, (Season 1 Finalist on HGTV’s “Design Star” and from her own HGTV Series, “Donna Decorates Dallas”) as she offers signed copies of her new book on luxury designer show houses – Best of Show!

On June 7th, the Unique Loom event will feature an educational segment with BOLD by Design Magazine’s founder and Business of Luxury Design business coach Julia Molloy as she hosts an insightful Q&A on “Bold Leadership for Creatives” – moderated by Unique Loom’s marketing manager, Whitney Hodge. Donna Moss will also be on hand to greet guests and sign her new book Best of Show.
