Biggest News in Week 3
It’s here! On Monday, I finally picked up the Nathan Anthony “Chablis” chair from White Glove Delivery warehouse, and cast my vote in this important 2020 election. What a great day that was! Isn’t she a beauty? This photo below captures the true color of this luxury swivel chair in light blue velvet designed by Tina Nicole, co-owner of Nathan Anthony’s luxury furniture brand. I can’t wait to get the rest of the room designed so I can happily swivel my worries away!
What I accomplished in Week 3
- Picked up Nathan Anthony Chablis chair
- Picked up the re-upholstered ottoman
- Finalized sponsorship for drapery fabric
- Received fabric samples
- In process of selecting drapery fabric
- Received more wallpaper samples
- Continue the hunt for rug, chairs, cocktail table, gold accents, art, and plants.

Gorgeous fabrics at your fingertips
It’s one thing to have a window treatment brand eager to create custom drapery for your One Room Challenge Living Room Salon, but another to make that successful with high-quality beautiful fabric. And you know how much I love textiles, right?
That’s where Mitchell Fabrics comes in. I was thrilled that Vita had an ongoing relationship with Creative Directory Julie Clary of Mitchell Fabrics. I swear, with only 3 weeks left, these two women whipped into gear and within 48 hours Julie had fabric samples at my doorstep. It was unbelievable how quickly they jumped on board and wanted to help make my Living Room Salon project a success. As I said, there’s nothing like the feeling of women supporting women. Thank you to you both!
Mitchell Fabrics has successfully built their brand by blending three different companies, and 150 years of combined experience, into one. They have enhanced all aspects of their business to meet the rising demand of a rapidly changing industry. The focus is simple – a high-quality product and excellent customer service for today’s busy designers.
Fabrics to fall in love with
Let’s just say, that when I jumped on their website it was love at first sight!
Mitchell Fabrics is continually enhancing its website to make the online shopping experience better. I found it super easy to navigate with an array of stunning fabrics. They’re also working hard to add new collections each quarter. Their new website is a textile lover’s dream!
Mitchell Fabrics has launched three new collections.
And that’s not even counting their delicious new Luxe Velvets, to die-for! So here’s my challenge and where y’all have been helping me on Instagram. They have so many gorgeous fabrics that I’ve had a difficult time figuring out which one will be the best for the custom drapery of our Living Room Salon.
Fabric decision for custom drapery
After pouring hours over their gorgeous fabrics, here are the fabric memos I ordered, and what a beautiful package it came in! (I love a brand’s packaging, and they get a gold star!)
I ordered several and narrowed it down to these five below:
Vineland Blue Embroidered Velvet
It was difficult to pass on their navy embroidered Luxe Velvet, but I narrowed it down even further and posted these four options for my Instagram followers to vote on. Were you one who gave your input? If not, please do so right HERE.
Mitchell Fabrics’ Creative Director Julie Cary has been so incredibly helpful taking the time to speak with me on the phone so I could learn more about each fabric. Plus she quickly took the photos above so I could see how they drape. Incredible customer service!
Did you know there’s a difference between drapery and curtains?
Well, I didn’t know until now. In fact, I’m learning a lot during this process of selecting fabric for our window treatments.
Feeling confident about your interior design decisions is important. Window treatments, whether it’s Roman shades or living room drapes, is a decision that needs to be front and center when designing any space.
Below are The Pillow Goddess Tips on what I consider in selecting the window treatments:
5 Tips to Select Beautiful Window Treatments for Your Living Room
- Overall design of the room
- Function of drapery
- Style and color
- Living room furnishings and patterns
- Overall decor of your home
Here’s the deal with our Living Room Salon.
It’s small. The entryway walks right into the living room, the breakfast nook, and the kitchen. There are one double one single windows that need window treatments. The room has little natural light and the whole point of remodeling this trio of rooms was to lighten and brighten it all up. Thus the cream walls and white kitchen cabinets.
In addition, right in that entryway, I plan to put wallpaper as an accent wall. So in selecting drapery I have to factor in all five tips above. The geometric pattern of the chair and ottoman, the dark blue velvet sofa, the new gorgeous light blue Nathan Anthony “Chablis” chair, as well as how all of this flows into the breakfast nook which is the focal point when you enter our home. So color and style are very important – and I’ve been struggling with mixing patterns!
It’s one thing to mix patterns in your bedroom or on pillows. It’s a little intimidating to mix them in an entire living room that serves as an entryway to your home and where guests mingle and relax, as well as have cocktails and dine in the nook and kitchen.
I was in such a tizzy I had to place a midnight phone call to my dear friend, interior designer Robin Baron! And your votes are helping too, thank you.
But in the end, it is ultimately my decision. I’m the one that has to feel confident in my selections and my husband has to have input too. So the decision-making process continues. Because for all we know, with the state of the current pandemic, we may be the only ones looking at this room for the next 12 months! I hope that’s not true cause I miss all our family and friends and I’m dying to entertain again!
My biggest takeaways from Week 3:
- you can never plan enough,
- you cannot make one design decision in isolation of the other design decisions, and
- it is a given that when participating in the One Room Challenge, at some point in time, everything peeks to a major crisis point where everything should have been ordered weeks ago.
Falling in Love with More of Mitchell Fabrics!
Okay, toward the end of my search I saw this incredible fabric on one of my favorite dining chairs. Now, all I have to do is figure out my next project!
Please review the Mitchell Fabrics website and follow them on Instagram. I know you too will find a fabulous textile for your next design project!
While this has been a challenging week, I’m thrilled to be selecting fabric with your input, and next week, Week 4, I’ll finalize pretty much everything else –
- wallpaper,
- lighting,
- rug, and
- bar and table chairs,
Onward we go into Week 4! You’ll have to wait until the BIG REVEAl on November 11th to see our new, custom window treatments by Vitalia, Inc.

Posted at 00:42h, 28 OctoberIt helps if you are a decisive designer, of which I am not. You are though, so I know you’d be able to make a rapid decision. I think that’s a record time for me deciding on a fabric…lol!!
Thank you for your support. I’m just as eager to see how all the room pieces come together.

Posted at 17:44h, 25 OctoberSpectacular fabric options, Deborah, and such a great introduction to both of these wonderful sponsors! I’m partial to anything robins egg blue and embroidered, so that Royalton Caribbean fabric has my name all over it! And I’m swooning over that green chair…you HAVE to find a place to use that – it works so perfectly with your breakfast nook!
Deborah Main
Posted at 00:46h, 28 OctoberThank yoh Janet!! Mitchell really does have some amazing options!! I’m glad you liked learning about these two amazing brands.
I hear ya on the chair. But that style of chair is very expensive and we have a more affordable green velvet pair. However, I am going to inquire about that fabric for sure!!
Hope you’re ORC going well. I need to catch up with it. Thx for your feedback as it means a lot to me. ❤
