Pucker Up With Jewel Tones – 6 Interior Styling Tips!

Whether in runway fashion or fashion for the home, it’s time to pucker up with jewel tones! Jewel tones like bold reds, greens, blues, purples and golds, have a way of holding their own through any season.  I couldn’t resist this provocative Instagram image above (via @lo_specchio) with Pantone’s Color of the Year, Ultra Violet. Find out how you can add rich color to not only your lips and wardrobe, but your interiors as well. But first a little fashion inspiration from my friend and CEO of luxury brand KOKET, Janet Morais. Fashion is where I personally get a lot of my inspiration.

I absolutely LOVE this image above I caught on Janet’s Instagram this week. This one I believe is from Milan Fashion Week, and how it’s paired with this brilliant golden yellow/orange is stunning. The one below is Galliano. It shows how Ultra Violet can be paired with almost any color with great success.

With the star-studded Oscar women donning fashionable gowns in every color imaginable this past weekend (although I was surprised to not see more memorable gowns in Pantone’s striking Color of the Year, Ultra Violet) we are seeing jewel tones everywhere.  Sometimes paired with green, pink, gold and red.

I must say, I was very partial to the brilliant red gown below, worn by Best Supporting Actress, Allison Janney, with it’s long open sleeves (yes, it might have to do with the fact that my fave light blue,1960’s fox-trimmed vintage coat has open sleeves).

I certainly can attest to having a love affair with all royal colors. I don’t know why exactly, but I am drawn to pops of saturated color. It’s in my DNA. You only have to glance at our Instagram to see what I mean.

Pantone’s Ultra Violet has peeked my interest and it should yours too this spring, as it’s a bold way to add pops of color to brighten up your interiors (especially if you’re still amidst winter snow storms). You either love it or hate it. If you like it, please read on.

The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today. As individuals around the world become more fascinated with color and realize its ability to convey deep messages and meanings, designers and brands should feel empowered to use color to inspire and influence. The Color of the Year is one moment in time that provides strategic direction for the world… – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute

So let’s talk about way’s you can empower yourself and your environment by adding a touch of Ultra Violet into your Interiors with all out saturated gusto, or in more subtle ways with an accent piece, or even a lighter shade.

Here are 6 ways:

  • Sofas
  • Walls
  • Chairs
  • Pillows
  • Lighting
  • Gadgets

Sofas: Below is a wonderful interior designed by the luxury brand KOKET. I love how only the sofas are in a dark, rich shade of Ultra Violet, but the room is full of texture and accented with warmer gold colors that complement the sofas perfectly.

Walls & Chairs: This next one is saturated with Ultra Violet (my apologies for not knowing the designer or photographer of this spectacular room). From the walls to the chairs, this interior designer has created an absolutely stunning and bold vignette pairing Ultra Violet with greens, hot pink and gold. I love how the centerpiece is a demure portrait of a woman, which contrasts the intense Ultra Violet wallpaper perfectly.

Design blogger, Ann Porter, had this to say, and a lot more, about Ultra Violet and this vignette on her blog, Kitchen Studio of Naples: (Thank you Ann for the image)

This room below, featured in Elle Decor, not only adds punches of Ultra Violet on the walls and textile choices for the chairs, but also the bookcases, rug, and pillows.

Which brings me to the Emi chair above by Nest Modern and other featured products (including Deborah Main Designs luxury pillows) in the Home Design & Decor Magazine’s. The February/March issue, with “Purple Haze” feature by editor Trisha Doucette, is on the news stands now. The Emo chair comes in many colors and adds the perfect touch of Ultra Violet if you want a subtle touch of color.

Pillows: We had fun pulling together some of our own Ultra Violet options for Home Design & Decor Magazine. Hard to select from so many delicious textiles, but we opted for the Ultra Violet Butterfly Brooch Pillow. (You can shop for all three of these Oplulent Jewel Pillows, perfect gifts for Mother’s Day and it’s never too early to shop for your Mom, at the end of this post).

Decorative pillows make a great way to add color to any of your rooms in your home or office because you can mix and match colors, styles, patterns and sizes. They’re often thought of as a last minute “throw pillow”, but here at Deborah Main Designs we prefer to think of them as one-of-a-kind statement pieces that bring art into a room.

In setting up The Collier Guest Room (below) for our Airbnb guest, who arrives today, we opted to style the modern bed with golds and orange.  We then added that pop of Ultra Violet to the mix with wonderful results.  In fact, I tried it with more muted pillows only to find out that my soul begs for color. I live for color and texture, and if you’re like me, color brings you great joy and happiness.

Lighting & Gadgets: Whether a dazzling chandelier and modern lamp, or even your entire kitchen range by La Cornue (so yummy!!) and a sleek tile backsplash designed by Austin’s own Panache Interiors, add a dash of Ultra Violet with a new Espresso machine and you’ve bathed your entire home in Ultra Violet.  Explore and be inspired by the many different ways, highlighted in the “Purple Haze” feature above, Pantone’s Ultra Violet can enliven your home with a subtle or intense splash of color in 2018!
