04 Nov Texture Tuesday – With Paint, Lace & Rugs Inspiration is Plentiful!
Inspiration above, from left to right: Roi James’ textured paints, Gail Chovan’s intricate vintage lace and Hacienda’s colorful rugs.
As some of you who follow me on Facebook know, last week I was fortunate enough to attend four events in one week. After a dry spell in the summer, it was a great way to kick off the holiday soiree season. Today’s #TextureTuesday highlights some of the texture and color detail that I fell in love with at some of these events.
Texture and color inspiration come in many forms – from a painter’s paints to a fashion designer’s lace and boutique’s handcrafted wares. Formal or informal – the full painting or the painter’s palette – to me, it’s all inspirational!
Austin Home Magazine often selects different local stores to have their networking socials, and last week’s was at Hacienda, a one-year old home decor boutique on Colorado in the chic 2nd Street Shopping District. Fun was had by all and I met many interior designers and architects as well as the lovely owner, Jessica Beattie. (Be sure to catch my interview with Jessica this Thursday on the blog. You can subscribe HERE to follow the Pillow Goddess weekly musings).
Here are a few snapshots from the Austin Home event at Hacienda:
Here I am with dear friend and Austin Home Magazine Advertising pro, Linda Funay. Linda’s great about inviting me to upcoming events. And I so appreciate it, because, as you can imagine with all the growth in Austin, it’s kind of hard to keep up to date with all that’s happening. So be sure to sign up for Austin Homes’ newsletter HERE.

Here’s the newest jewelry for your home, below, from PushPullOpenClose. I love how this image turned out. Aren’t they adorable pulls? They’re made from mother-of-pearl and amber in Italy. Jay Hiebert just happened to be fiddling with these in his hands at the event….and of course I snagged them for this fun shot.
Moi in my red leather jacket I scored in Florence this summer, with friend and partner in crime, interior designer Patrick Landrum of PL&D/Patrick Landrum Design and the lovely owner of Hacienda, Jessica Beattie.
Christy Caffrey of Caffrey’s Furniture talking with other guests. Great to see you Christy and catch up.
Gene Menez, editor of Austin Home Magazine, above welcoming all the guests!
There’s always door prizes or some sort of raffle at these fun events. Patrick Landrum, of PL&D/Patrick Landrum Design, announcing one of the winners above.
In addition to the festive Austin Home Magazine event at Hacienda, I was able to see the recent paintings by acclaimed artist Roi James and the latest designs by renowned fashion designer, Gail Chovan.
Sometimes it takes the tiniest of details to set my creative mind going. Needless to say, I was inspired and I hope you are too!
I’m working on making #TextureTuesdays shorter (honest, I am!), so please enjoy some DIVINE texture I discovered at Roi James Open Studio, Gail Chovan Atelier’s fashion show, and Austin Home Magazine’s social at Hacienda. And remember to check back on the blog this Thursday for an interview with the owner of Hacienda.
Till next time, take a break from the rain (before it comes again) and get out in that sunshine to enjoy this glorious fall weather that has finally arrived. I plan to do just that the whole month of November. You never know where you’ll find the next texture and color to inspire you! XO PG
One of Roi James’ colorful and textural constructs. I love the shadows it makes too. Don’t rely on my photos….please be sure to visit his website right HERE.
Roi had just finished this painting above before his Open Studio this past weekend. You must see it in person…it’s spectacular and large too!
Roi’s work table in his studio with all his paints.
One of Roi James’ paint palettes above and his brushes below. I don’t know about you, but that stuff really inspires me too. I love to see artist’s studios and Roi so graciously opens his a few times a year. Thank you Roi!
Now, onto inspiration from Gail Chovan’s fashion show, “Scar No. 18”
Gail puts on an incredible fashion show in unique places a couple times a year. This one was at a gorgeous Victorian home in Travis Heights neighborhood, with a runway of candlelight. She had many designs, but the textural vintage lace on some of her looks really captured my attention.
This above was simply SPECTACULAR!! They were doing a photo shoot when I arrived and the color of the water against Gail’s model draped in incredible lace against the backdrop of green bamboo….well, it was simply breathtaking and I wanted you to see the full view.
Below, this was the last look that walked the runway. To me, it was the “piece de resistance” and a perfect finale for Gail’s incredible designs!! I can’t wait to find out more about the back story to this beautiful lace that was so inspiring to me!
For the finale of our #TextureTuesday, below are many textures, some filled with color, like these woven rugs, that fill the creative boutique Hacienda in the 2nd Street Shopping District. You must be sure to stop by, as the owner Jessica Beattie is delightful. Remember to pop in to our blog on Thursday too to read the interview with Jessica. You can subscribe to our weekly blog and/or our quarterly newsletter right here.
Below is this amazing long-haired Brindle cow hide rug!
I don’t know which is more spectacular, the vases and tin cups (which are really ceramic!), or the handcrafted shelving they’re on that Jessica designed! There’s a story with these shelving units, but I’m going to have to save that for the interview. Check back on Thursday right here on the Pillow Goddess.
Below is the “To-Die-For” antique Navajo rug that hangs on the store’s central wall. The colors are purely magnificent!! And I do love me some red!!
I fell in love with these textured aqua lamps with linen shades below. A fantastic pair by Ro Sham Beaux, if only I had a spot for them in my remodel….sigh!
Love these details on the shelving units that Jessica designed. I’m going to have to find out more about these for sure!
Hacienda has an array of gorgeous vintage and new rugs. The middle one is 100 years old and I believe was a wedding rug. The rugs are a “must-see” in person!
Below is a hodge-podge of wonderful texture from throw pillows to framed mirrors to wire baskets and wooden tool holders.
Can’t be an Austin artisan store without putting a little bit of Austin IN your store, now can you? Below is a guitar in mixed media by 5th generation Texan, Ginger Grasley.
The bottoms of some geometrically shaped wine coolers.
More textured rugs in an array of color choices.
Some fab jewelry by The Distillery Market. Loved the texture of some of these bracelets!
And how cool are these serving pieces below? Love them!
Colorful and fringed “Essential Towels” that are big enough for many purposes from towel, scarf to blanket and shawl. And soft cotton too!
Awesome angled wine coolers made out of cement. These seem like the perfect “Housewarming gift”!
