07 Nov Deborah Main High Point Interview with Jan Niels of Interior Design Gallery

Not having our own Deborah Main Designs brick and mortar, I am so fortunate to be part of a gorgeous well-established showroom in Austin to showcase all of our luxury decorative pillows in one place, Interior Design Gallery (IDG).  You’ve heard me speak of them before and you’ll hear more, as their gallery is going through an entire remodel that is making their space and all their furnishings create infinite possibilities for home owners and commercial spaces alike.  Be sure to stop by our Holiday Trunk Show coming up on Thursday, November 21st, to see all our new designs and much of the new furniture and accessories IDG picked up at High Point Furniture Market.

Interior designer and owner, Jan Niels (and her husband Billy) have operated their full service design company for over 27 years. Jan and her staff at IDG are widely recognized for their vast experience in all facets of a design project.

I still can’t get over the amazing floors and how much that enhances the gallery/showroom experience for their clients!! And to have all their beautiful couches (and now beds coming soon!) to showcase my work on is just SUPER exciting for me and a real honor!

I had an opportunity to sit down with designer, Jan Niels, owner and creative director of Interior Designer Gallery, for a few minutes after she’d just gotten back from High Point market. You can find much of her design work displayed on Houzz.

DM: How was High Point for you this year?

JN: It was a fantastic market for lots of reasons!! First off, instead of only going for a few  days and whisking through, we went a whole week and were able to spend a longer time with our vendors.  We made appointments and had time to really study the lines that we carry.

DM: What are the major showrooms you visited and lines you carry at Interior Design Gallery?

JN: The Lexington and Bernhardt showrooms are just really beautiful and we saw so many new items that we just never had the luxury of time to see on previous markets.

DM: So you recommend spending a week at High Point?

JN: Yes, absolutely! We just had much more time to relax and meet with our vendors, get to know them more, and see all their gorgeous new products.

DM: I know you’re in the process of remodeling your entire gallery/showroom and have plans for a full scale event in January 2014. Did you pick up any new lines at High Point that will give your design clients and retail customers more choices?

JN: Yes! We bought a lot of custom wood pieces and accessories and we’ll be carrying striking contemporary furniture by Nathan Anthony , Phillips Collection, Julian Chichester, Caracole and Visual Comfort Lighting.

DM: That’s a lot of new options for your clientele. Those new lines offer so many creative furnishings and lighting for your customers and clients.

JN: Yes, we’ve bought some really beautiful pieces of furniture and are able to now offer more contemporary lines and accessories.  But we’re also very excited about premiering our new private label line very soon.

DM: Wow, that’s very exciting, can you tell me more about that?

JN: Well, not quite yet, except that we’ll be premiering it in the new year and we’re just really happy to be able to offer our own label to clients in addition to all the fantastic furniture lines we carry.

DM: Congratulations on all your new endeavors!  We at Deborah Main Designs are excited about the new look and lines your showroom offers and we’re thrilled to partner with you and be able to offer your clients our luxury pillow line.

JN: Well, after we saw  you in Atlanta and with our new shelving as part of our remodel, I just knew your pillows would display beautifully in our showroom.  They really add so much to our fine furnishings and the other lines and art we carry. We’re thrilled to be able to showcase original Deborah Main pillows for our clientele to add to their home decor!

DM: Well, thank you Jan!  It was great fun running into each other in Atlanta! It’s a real honor to be part of such a gorgeous showroom and so much fun to work with you and your experienced team.

DM: Just two more questions and then I’ll let you go. What was the highlight of High Point for you?

JN: I met the granddaughter of Este Lauder. Her name is Aerin and she has designed product for Visual Comfort Lighting as well as furniture for Ralph Lauren. She was delightful!

DM: Lastly, what are five key trends you noticed at this fall’s High Point market you’d like our readers to know about while their remodeling their homes and decorating for the holidays?

JN: I saw lots of bright colors used in big furniture pieces, large scale patterns used on rugs and fabrics, glamour and sparkle in furniture as well as fabric, and the use of neutrals, and one more which is still very popular, using nail heads on furniture pieces.
