01 Nov Color: Pops of Orange with Deborah Main Designs
We at Deborah Main Designs want to wish you a frightful Happy Halloween!! By now, kiddos have tricked and treated around the block and are laying out their candy to see the loot. Probably lining them all up by type and trading (I hope kids still do that!). My faves were Butterfingers, Nestles Crunch, and Peanut M&M’s. Way too sweet for me now (and my palette has grown partial to dark chocolate…yum!) but a little candy now and again doesn’t hurt. Who knows it might even help my laryngitis!!! (My family’s been thrilled my cold has silenced me for days….ha! ha!).
In Austin, Texas, where Deborah Main Designs studio is located, South Austin to be precise, we are fortunate to have the most amazing costume palace, Lucy in Disguise! Smack in the middle of famous South Congress Avenue, it’s open year round (tourists love it!) and stocks every costume, every mask, every make up, every sword, every eyeball, every wig, every everything that you could ever imagine!! And in every color too!!
I took my girls there this week – one to rent a Japanese school girl costume and get makeup to make her throat looked slit and have bloody cuts on her face (this is our exchange student who loves gore), and the other (my daughter) to my surprise actually went for my suggestion to recycle part of last years costume of rainbow leg warmers. She went for a unicorn headband with rainbow hair to complete the look.
Lucy’s allows you to rent the costumes for a daily fee or purchase them. It’s really the greatest and most fun place in Austin and every single time I’m there they have THE most helpful salespeople in the world. They’re SO happy, it’s just a joy to go there. So be sure to stop in next time you visit Austin, Texas, U.S.A., or visit their website.
Many of us generally associate Halloween decorating with orange and black. A spider here, a pumpkin there. My kids are older now, so we don’t do as many decorations, but
I do want you to know how much I love orange. It’s really a color that POPS!!! We’ve had several customers that have incorporated it very nicely into their homes year round.
You’ll soon be hearing (in our next few posts) more about what interior designers from across the country saw at High Point Market for 2013 fall/winter colors and upcoming home decor trends for 2014. I know GOLD is a big one on the list, but we’re going to interview several different designs so you can see the diversity of options available to you if you’re redecorating or building a new home.
But for now, please enjoy below some of our fave pillows we’ve made, with a POP of orange, that work for Halloween or any time of the year. We at Deborah Main Designs wish you a safe and wonderful Halloween, the grand finish to October…can it REALLY already be November?? Until next time, enjoy the pretty fall weather! XO, PG
