02 Sep Celebrate True Meaning of Labor Day with Deborah Main Designs!

Amidst all the sales and barbecues you attend today (and I will be at one myself, Gypsies Antiques 10 Year Celebration! See below), please remember that we are able to enjoy this holiday because of all the millions of workers before us that have fought for these rights we share today.  Please take a moment during your day to remember what this holiday stands for.  Here’s just one quote from David Sirota I saw on Facebook today that made me stop and think:

“….Labor Day was not designed to give you a day off to commemorate the end of your summer nor to give parents a special day to hit the chain stores for back-to-school sales. It was designed to give us all a chance to honor and commemorate the American labor movement and all of its achievements for millions of workers — union and non-union alike. These achievements include (among other things) higher wages, healthcare benefits, child labor laws, the eight-hour workday and the weekend.”

As we said in our prior blog post, we at Deborah Main Designs honor all the small businesses and workers that work so hard to bring you the products you desire.  And we all know, there is still plenty to fight for around the world, because not everyone enjoys the benefits of the American Labor Movement. We’ve got more work to do to eradicate child labor and inequities for women throughout the world!
