12 Apr High Point Has It All – 4 Top Designers Launch Products!

If you’re an interior designer, retailer, or anyone in the home design industry, High Point Market is probably your destination this week. And for good reason!  While I’ve personally never been (quite yet!) High Point is THE largest furniture Trade Show in the United States. Spring High Point runs from April 14 – 18, 2018.

Thousands or professionals in the home design industry – from retailers, architects and interior designers to decorators, stagers and editors – more than 75,000 people descend upon High Point, North Carolina to scout, and shop for, the hottest new products for their clients, both residential and commercial.

This week we introduce you to 4 incredible luxury brands from highly respected, award-winning designers and product developers that we personally know. We not only highly recommend their interior design services, but the gorgeous products they create.

Corey Damen Jenkins – Lighting

Corey is THE man!! Originally from Detroit, Corey Damen Jenkins, crowned Traditional Home’s “New Rising Star of Design” award and who’s designs have already graced the cover of the national publication, is highly recognized for not only his impeccable design services, but his partnership with furniture brand Leathercraft. Now at High Point, Corey debuts his new line of lighting with the industry leader Hudson Valley Lighting.

I love lighting, probably due to the intoxicating influence of my dear friend who I’ve dubbed The Lighting Goddess, Laura Van Zeyl, VP of lighting at Dallas Market Center! I already had the pleasure a couple years ago of getting a personal tour by the owner of the Littman Brands, David Littman.  Hudson Valley Lighting, part of the Littman brands, has been a leader in the lighting industry, always trailblazing new trends.  I was fascinated to learn first hand from David about their meticulous and detailed design process as well as their high standards of craftsmanship.

Hudson Valley pursues a “design-forward strategy that includes scouting the industry’s best emerging and established designers for exclusive partnerships. Corey was the perfect creative visionary to kick off 2018.”

Corey is a fresh, talented designer with a great personality and deep knowledge of his field. There’s a natural affinity between the work Corey is doing and what we’re after. We thought we would put our talents together and see what comes of it. The results are big character pieces with historical relevance and contemporary appeal – David Littman, Founder and CEO of Littman Brands.

I also had the opportunity to see a sneak peek at Dallas Market in January of a few of Corey’s gorgeous lighting offerings – chandeliers, pendants, and sconces. I was captivated by the details and stories behind each collection. At High Point, expect to see over 18 styles in multiple finishes and more!

Corey has created four beautiful collections, each named after a Greek Mythology.

• Calypso – inspired by the late 1890’s Viennese Succession Art period
• Persis – the “Hombre” finish is dipped in polished nickel
• Ocavio – the gold leaf finish is covered with beeswax on top of the leaf
• Damaris – sexy, clean and conservative, inspired by the Greek Goddess, has clean lines and Belgium linen not just on the outside of the shades, but the insides as well.
• Zariah – is a traditional empire chandelier with draped beading.

It’s an inestimable privilege to be partnering with Hudson Valley Lighting. It’s a career dream come true for me. It’s also historic: it’s the first time this esteemed company has welcomed an outside designer into its family to develop a licensed collection. So the magnitude of this honor is not lost on me. This is just the beginning of what’s to come – Corey Damen Jenkins.

Nathan Anthony – Furniture

Nathan Anthony Adds Artful Shapes to New Seating Designs at High Point Market 

The talented designer Tina Nicole is behind the award-winning Nathan Anthony contemporary furnishings line. Tina has won numerous international awards for her designs and was recently added to the Design et al “World’s Leading Design Names for 2018” list.

What I love about Nathan Anthony, besides that their designs are handcrafted in the USA, is that they are incredibly unique and inspiring. Tina has a fashion background and gets her inspiration from traveling all over the world with her family. And it shows in every single detail of the quilting, ruching, shapes and patterns seen in their exquisite products, not just in the front, but all across the back and sides.

Nathan Anthony debuts three dynamic seating designs to its upholstery lineup at High Point, in InterHall space IH-411. Each exemplify their dedication to the craft of bench-made production and fashion-informed point of view.

• Chablis – inspired by Arabesque shapes, a barrel-shaped, large quilted chair.
• Kasbah – inspired by Morrocan art and architecture, a swivel chair with a comfortable, socializing silhouette.
• Cruise – inspired from the yachting lifestyle, an extra-wide cantilevered sleek chair.

Nathan Anthony leads High Point market with the introduction of their new stylish, barrel-shaped Chablis chair.  With its Arabesque-inspired ornamental quilting that sweeps across the entire back in a rhythmic pattern, it is a sight to behold!

But that’s not all friends, because they’re also debuting a 43-inch-deep sofa version of Chablis. The sofa features the same rounded back treatment and decorative quilting as the chair, but is accented by contoured, scalloped and quilted arms, and a scalloped wood plinth which matches the exits of each decorative shape.

Chablis is an artful, free-flowing design statement with rhythmic lines beckoning ancient Arabesque shapes and a very inviting feel. We felt inspired by our latest travels to touch on this concept. The pieces are designed to be viewed from all sides, so they can be easily floated or grouped. The design is over-the-top but with crossover appeal; it can swing contemporary, transitional or traditional, depending on the other furnishings in the room. – Tina Nicole, award-winning lead designer, Nathan Anthony.

Here’s the fabulous Chablis sofa! Isn’t it divine? Not only is the Arabesque quilting on the front, but it is also on the sides and back, a distinct feature of Nathan Anthony luxury furniture. Be sure to stop by their showroom for cocktails to celebrate their new furnishings on Saturday, April 14th, from 2 – 4 p.m., at InterHall 411!

The Cruise chair (below) is debuting in pastels, “Pastels will be an important color direction for us this market”, says Nicole. “It’s a very hot trend in women’s apparel.”

Denise Mcgaha – Textiles 

Dallas designer, Denise McGaha’s interiors have been turning heads for years, but at High Point she is debuting two new collections and doing a spectacular vignette. Be sure to stop by all three of her exciting events!

But let me share a little bit of Denise’s story and inspiration behind her textile collection for Design Legacy. With a nod to her Southern roots, and love of nature and the outdoors, Denise brings a painterly palette to her textiles.

I love the stories behind her inspiration. For example, take the pattern “Beta”. It was inspired by the flowing tail of the beta fish her children had as youngsters.

In collaborating with Kelly O’ Neal of Design Legacy, Kelly could take Denise’s vision and then paint the pattern. “What better way to bring something to life,” exchanges McGaha.

Another inspiration to the collection is fond memories of Denise’s Grandmother’s Magnolia tree with their glossy leaves and velvety underleaf. Through back and forth design collaboration, this formed the “Lily” pattern.

“This was true collaboration at work,” says O’Neal.   “We took images and had to create a large-scale pattern with a repeat that would be seamless, so that it would be easy on the eye.  When you see it installed on a ceiling, it has impact on all levels.”

Michelle Workman – Trim

I had a wonderful time January 2018 at Dallas Market visiting with friend Michelle Workman, the talented designer behind the new trim collection for Pyar & Co. I first saw it at BOLD Summit last September and fell in love with it!  Please enjoy the delicious colors and textures of Michelle’s exquisite trims, also debuting at High Point.
