Can You IMAGINE a World Filled with Art and Peace?

Photo by Round Rock Arts of IMAGINE, their annual Art Exhibition.

IMAGINE walking into Texas State University Round Rock campus this weekend and seeing hundreds of pieces of art from artists all over central Texas – paintings, sculptures, mosaics, fiber and more. You’ll see just that at the Opening Reception of the IMAGINE Art Exhibition this Saturday, March 4th, from 7 – 9:30 p.m.  And you’re invited!! The exhibition runs through May 6th.

This week’s Texture Tuesday gives you the full scoop on the IMAGINE 2017 Art Exhibition, and a sneak peek into some of the color and texture you’ll find there.  (Full disclosure: one of my textile art pillows below will be in this exhibition.)

To learn more about the IMAGINE art exhibition and what to expect at this gala benefiting Round Rock Arts, please read this post on Round the Rock.

Also my friend April Sullivan, who is the director of VSA Texas, is a talented yarn painting artist and her work below, The Turtle, will also be in the IMAGINE Art Exhibition.  To see more of April’s yarn paintings, check out her website HERE.  I love all the color and texture in April’s artwork! I cannot imagine the patience it must take to create her beautiful pieces, cause I have zero patience. But I CAN imagine that it must be very meditative, and very peaceful to work with yarn in such a unique way. Congratulations April!

And while you’re at it, tune in to AMPLIFY AUSTIN on March 2nd starting at 6 p.m. and think about giving to VSA Texas, the arts organization of which I’m a member that helps artists with disabilities. April rocks at her job and does everything she can to promote awareness for VSA Texas! It’s all about the “I Live here I Give Here” campaign this week, so imagine and give to the ARTS on Thursday! Imagination is a beautiful thing. We all have it.  Doesn’t matter what race or religion you are, what country you live in, or even your gender for that matter.  Everyone who is born with a mind is also born with imagination.

Per Wikipedia: Imagination….is the creative ability to form images, ideas, and sensations in the mind without direct input from the senses, such as seeing or hearing.

Does your imagination help you create your art?  It does mine, because I think a lot about it, imagining it in my head before I actually go into my studio and create my artwork.  In fact, I’ve been thinking about the piece that I’m going to create out of this amazing vintage yellow fringe gown below!

Lemon yellow 1960’s gown I scored last weekend at a local vintage shop, Bloomers & Frocks, in Austin.

I’m in love with the fringed cuffs and collar and intricate details of the lace overlay and beading in this 1960’s gown, imagining the life of the lucky woman who wore this lemon beauty. Can’t wait to see where my imagination takes me on this one!

Take a walk sometime this week or shop local at a vintage shop to escape all the political hoopla and let your imagination take flight.  You’ll never know what you’ll discover.

Please stop by Saturday night at Texas State University for an evening filled with art at IMAGINE: A Night of Art and Performance. Buy tickets HERE and read more about this wonderful IMAGINE Artwork Exhibit event HERE.

I’d like to leave you with the lyrics of John Lennon’s IMAGINE, as we all could use more art in our life and a little of Lennon’s imagination in the world right now! XO PG

Imagine there’s no heaven

It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today,

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
