Where Art, Design and Sparkle Inspire – Pettigrew!

20161103_011115_resized_1

There’s nothing like a simple or elegant vignette that inspires me.  Color and texture always draw me in. But also a combination of art, design, and definitely a little sparkle, will do the trick too.

On a recent trip to Dallas, I got plenty when my dear friend Matthew Wilson invited me to the showroom he recently started managing, Pettigrew. Pettigrew is in the Design District of Dallas, which is right near Dallas Market, and often where many interior designers shop for unique luxury items and brands for their clients.  I’m very excited for Matthew and knew it would be a beautiful showroom, cause he only works for the best in the business.

But I had no idea it was going to be drop-dead GORGEOUS and not only full of texture and color and luxury brands I love,  but TONS of inspiring art, design, and yes, plenty of, sparkle.

Below is my fantasy place, a gorgeous luxurious gold bedroom with an ornate crystal chandelier by Lexington, that you would never want to leave!

In fact, that is one of the hallmark features of Pettigrew’s luxury showroom –  its excellent wide range of services from restoration and cleaning of existing chandeliers to designing one from scratch to meet your client’s specifications to cleaning and repair. Pettigrew is known for it’s outstanding quality in luxury lighting!

And yes, white fluffy rectangle pouffs so easy for lounging on that you can see it didn’t take me but a nano-second to sprawl all over them with ease!

Now, just a little background. Last week’s Texture Tuesday was all about the color and texture at Pettigrew, but I did not give you the name. I had a contest instead which invited you to guess where I got my inspiration while in Dallas. You had ALL week to do a little detective work…..but I’m sorry to say, that no one emailed me the answer. Perhaps everyone’s already busy with the holiday season.

Anyhoo, I want to share ALL the amazing inspiration I found at the beautiful showroom Pettigrew and the luxury brands they carry.

Now this is a To-the-Trade Only showroom, so if you see something you can’t live without, please contact your interior designer, or, if needed, I’m happy to recommend a few for you.

And please be sure to see the gorgeous paintings of my friend and award-winning artist La Toya Jones of Forever Royalty in this post. To my surprise, Pettigrew had several of her paintings on display and I love her work which uses crystals and gems in her paintings, like in this beauty below.

Okay, I’m going to start you off with some of the textures I showed you in last week’s Texture Tuesday post so you can see what gorgeous furnishings they carry.  If you didn’t see the post, please check it out HERE.

Below are some wonderfully textured “Private Label” fabrics exclusive to Pettigrew that cover these beautiful dining table chairs and the blue lacquer chair below. Pettigrew has a huge library of textiles of their own design.  I was enraptured by all the color and texture!

The blue enamel rococo chair (below) with striped velvet and the rug are both Pettigrew Signature pieces made with Private Label Fabrics,

Here’s Matthew digging through some textiles to find the different color ways the blue cut velvet (below) comes in that I absolutely fell in love with.

This blue textured textile is the number one fabric I absolutely adored in the showroom. It not only covers these chairs (custom made at Pettigrew in their on-site studio), but look at the entire beautiful room and the painting that almost mimics the pattern of this exclusive fabric.

There were gorgeous vignettes and rooms throughout the Pettigrew showroom, and Matthew gave me a personal tour.

I couldn’t take photos fast enough, and of course, I probably didn’t hear a word he said, because around every corner of Pettigrew’s carefully curated showroom, my jaw would drop a little farther in amazement.

I literally was so inspired at Pettigrew, that I really didn’t want to leave.  I mean look at some of these stunning rooms below!

Just full of color and texture. In fact, this room above shows many

HOT trends in the home:

  • backs of chairs with incredible gold cutouts
  • sexy coffee table legs, and
  • mixed metals.

To really catch the latest trends, a great blog I follow and highly recommend is my friend Jeanne Chung’s Cozy Stylish Chic blog. Here’s her latest post on the trends she found at High Point market in October.  And if you live in Pasadena, run, don’t walk to her brand new store of the same name: Cozy Stylish Chic.

One thing I also liked about the Pettigrew showroom is that it seemed to have something for every client with a lot of different textures, shapes, patterns, from the ornate to the more casual. Like this room above I could easily see in the home with a family.  I love the skull head painting and all the wooden shapes and large geodes and a highly carved wooden lamp and angular stool. It’s very relaxed, inviting, and less formal.

But sometimes you need that real kick of edgy design and below are lamps I fell in love with instantly!  They are designed by Kelly Wearstler for Visual Comfort, a very popular brand in lighting. The black lacquer is divine….and the over-sized bumps are just plain fun!

Below are the Kelly Wearstler Linden Black Porcelain Table Lamps on a Lexington media cabinet.

Lexington and Bernhardt, just two of the many top luxury brands Pettigrew carries, happen to be two of my favorite luxury home furnishing brands that never cease to amaze me with their classic, but yet cutting edge, design.

Below is another incredibly textured lamp base paired with a more feminine gold table and then a modern hand chair next to it.

Another great example of the diversity of styles at Pettigrew.

Now, before I wrap this post up, I must sneak in a few more of my favorites.

Pettigrew carries some really neat side, or occasional, tables, like this one below Giselle Petrified Wood Martini Table by Palecek. It is next to a Taylor King sofa, those sexy coffee table legs I mentioned before, all on an antique Oushak rug.

20161101_012543_resized (2)

I like occasional side tables, especially nesting tables because they are so versatile to decorate with. I’d love to hear how you use side tables in your home! Below is that mother-of-a-pearl detail I showed you in last week’s Texture Tuesday post.

I love the variety of texture in this image below with the pillow and sofa textile paired with a more rustic stone side table.

20161101_010822_resized (2)

And this wonderful rattan swirl chair below was just TOO MUCH FUN! I just HAD to give it a swirl….what a conversation piece too!.

20161028_141617_resized

And these decadent and divine green velvet chairs that if I could, I would purchase in a heart beat were probably one of my absolute faves!

That color!  That velvet!  Oh my!!!

20161101_014059_resized (2)

I cannot not mention these two incredible tables below. The first a gorgeous Bernhardt with a base that is a sculpture of it’s very own, worthy of being on top of the table! And the second, a custom onyx round table by Pettigrew that is so intricate in person because the lines of the onyx line up so perfectly as you can see in the detail below. Remarkable!

Matthew told me during my personal tour that:

“Pettigrew’s custom upholstery lines, as well as our own on-site master finisher/carpenters, can literally create or re-create anything a client needs or wants.”

That’s pretty remarkable that Pettigrew has that level of service in-house and readily available To-The-Trade.  I don’t know the exact turn around times, as typically when something is custom it is so well made that it takes awhile.

But surely it is an appealing service to the interior designer and their client as it is all manufactured right in the USA at the Pettigrew showroom and workroom.

I really thought of you Jana Patina Phipps, The Trim Queen, when Matthew showed me this delicious wide tape below that would look so divine with one of their newest private label textiles in stock!

All I have to say is look at all this GORGEOUS color in their in-house private-label textile library. You know, that is was VERY hard for me to walk away without spending hours pouring through and playing with all these delicious fabrics!

Okay, I promise….only TWO more exquisite features of the Pettigrew showroom that captivated me and I must share with you, both of which incorporate gorgeous crystals and gems into the details of the artistry:

  • the diverse styles of crystal chandeliers, many of which are made in-house by Pettigrew, and
  • the art, La Toya Jones’ paintings.

Matthew even took me  back into their studio to see where they make the chandeliers, which to me is always a privilege and absolute treat. I love having a tour of the work rooms of luxury lines. Like at Peacock Alley, another Dallas showroom but with gorgeous luxury bedding linens (which  my hubs and I used for our recent guest room renovation to rent out short-term for Austin City Limits festival) friend Brad Cleveland took me behind the scenes to meet their long-time seamstresses and to see how their monograms are made.

Nothing more exciting and inspiring to me,  than seeing a room full of sewing machines at Peacock Alley, and as at Pettigrew, a room full of crystal chandeliers in the making!

As Matthew told me while I was ooohing and aaaahing over the sparkling crystal chandeliers,

“Most of Pettigrew’s chandeliers are custom and built in house. We also have the capabilities to change, edit, or reconstruct and existing chandelier. Our lighting department installs, cleans, restores, re-wires, and builds chandeliers from scratch.” – Matthew Wilson

How perfect for the interior designer who finds an antique Parisian vintage chandelier whose client can’t live without! Pettigrew appears to take care of restoring those to perfection.

This first show-stopper below is from Italy!  Unbelievable in person!

This one below in my FAVE luxury bedroom is made by Lexington. Absolutely breathtaking in person!

I began to notice that chandeliers were Pettigrew’s specialty in the first room that really caught my attention with that blue textured textile. I think there were about 10 chandeliers when I looked up!

Above is Matthew’s desk right in the heart of the gorgeous showroom. That’s when I really noticed two of La Toya Jones’ exquisite paintings hanging behind his desk.  I was thrilled to find them at Pettigrew!

La Toya Jones Forevery Royalty work is remarkable because I don’t know of any other painter that incorporates diamonds, emeralds and other precious gems directly into her paintings. It adds such a layer of depth and of course imaginative sparkle!

You can see the details below in this fun photo of Matthew and me. We go way back in friendship to 2006, as Matthew was my very first rep for my line when it was carried by Doris Sanders showroom at the World Trade Center. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Matthew. Not only is he incredibly talented at what he does, but he’s one of the kindest and utmost gentleman I know and admire. I’m lucky all these years to have him as a dear friend and supporter of my own artwork, Deborah Main Designs. I’ve learned a lot from Matthew and I know will continue to do so.

20161101_011653_resized (2)

Matthew said he loves how the sunlight in the morning shines through the crystals in the lamp on his desk. That would make me eager to come into work every day, to be surrounded by all the beauty of art and design at Pettigrew!

Below are three original images of La Toya’s work that I thought you’d like to see.

“At Forever Royalty, I create as if I were designing for a King or a Queen! Detail, detail, detail is not always efficient or economical, but it is a required necessity for me.” – La Toya Jones, artist.

La Toya’s colorful and textured paintings are available at Pettigrew and online at www.latoyajones.com
