How to Celebrate Your Holidays with Color – Teal!

Color911 - Deborah Main promo pg 1b

Today, my friend and award-winning color expert, Amy Wax, and I, kick off our exciting holiday color campaign #ColorYourHolidays! On our blogs and all our Social Media (using hashtag #coloryourholidays) we’ll be featuring color inspiration every week in December and ways to bring unique, festive, fun color – and let’s not forget calming and soothing color – into your holidays. (Phew, I don’t think I’ve ever used the word “color” five times in one sentence!)

But you get our message – COLOR!  We want to share our excitement for color with you – all through the month of December – so you can loosen up when decorating your home this holiday and have fun with color too. Truthfully, Amy and I are obsessed with color because we use it every day in our work. Please visit our websites, subscribe to our blogs, and follow all our social media: Deborah Main Designs & Amy Wax, cause there’s a contest coming up next week (see all SoMe links at bottom of post).

We’re excited to kick off #ColorYourHolidays with some beautiful jewel tones this week. I love royal colors so this is one of my faves! Colors come in many shades, tones, and gradients as you will see in the colors we select each week.

This week’s color, Teal, “is a medium-saturated, blue-green color, similar to medium green and dark cyan. It can be created by mixing blue with green into a white base, or deepened as needed with a little bit of black or gray color.” (Wikipedia) And, I might add, it goes really well with turquoise and aqua.

Now let me introduce you to international color expert Amy Wax, genius behind the Color911 App, who has inspired our #ColorYourHolidays campaign.  As you can see above, Amy has had some fun with the App pulling out all the shades of blue/green teal in one of our Les Bijoux luxury pillows, this lovely Teal Green Silk Brocade pillow with Vintage Brooch.  A real stunning gift now available in Deborah Main Design’s online store HERE at “special holiday” pricing, (This pricing has never before been available on our website, so if you’re wanting an “original” Deborah Main pillow, now’s the time to snag one!).

Amy’s award-winning Color911 App has been widely recognized by Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, and Lonny Mag as the next best thing to sliced bread! Seriously folks, it will change the way you decorate and think about color. Download the Color911 App right HERE for yourself or to gift someone for the holidays. As you can see below on one of our Les Petits Bijoux holiday ornaments (now available, in different colorways, at our newest online store, La Bella Fiona). The Color911 App allows you to bring out all the colors in an image of a product or a room so that when you’re shopping for holiday decor you have the colors with you.  You might be freshening up your home with a coat of paint, or perhaps decorating your tree or fireplace mantel with unique ornaments, like this one we custom made for a client.

When trying to write about teal today, I also immediately thought of my friend, artist Leanne Venier, who does a series on the healing properties of color. I asked Leanne what she had to say about the color teal:

“Teal is a combination of blue and green, so it has healing properties of both colors. With the calming properties of blue balancing the nature of green, teaI gives you calm clarity and focus over the holidays.”  – Leanne Venier

I’ve seen many of Leanne’s paintings in person and if I were redecorating my home for the holidays and wanted to make a statement in the teal/aqua color way, I would instantly have these paintings hanging on my walls near my tree, and maybe a few of the Deborah Main luxury pillows below.  I know blue and green are very calming colors to me and  both of Leanne’s paintings, and my pillows in this post, exemplify the real variation from teal to aqua that this colorway offers in decorating your home for the holidays. You can see more of Leanne’s paintings and her healing colors HERE.

On that note, since you know I could go on and on about color, please see a couple more Deborah Main Designs’ luxury pillows in teal below that color expert Amy Wax waved her magic wand over, with the Color 911 App, to highlight many colors that will work perfectly in your home while decorating with teal. So get your color on this week with teal and be sure to follow all our social media (at bottom of post) and use the hashtag #coloryourholidays cause we have a fun contest coming up next week! Oh, and before I forget, we made a special Pinterest board #ColorYourHolidays to celebrate color this December that you can follow AND pin your color inspiration to as well.

Till next week’s surprise color for #ColorYourHolidays, enjoy all that color in your life and get creative!  XO PG
